RACE RESULTS
The first World Champs selection races were held last weekend and we had some great results for BTS athletes who competed. In ,Merinda Eckart won the 20-24 ladies in the WA State Sprint Champs to gain maximum points towards selection.
Not only was it a win but it was also Merinda's first podium in her age group and something that been coming for a while now on the back of some good consistent training and racing. And at the qualifying race in Canberra, everyone that raced gained selection points.
Leading the way were Kristy Bell and Yas Grigaluinas who both placed 6th in the 20-24 and 35-39 ladies while Amanda Johns was 10th in the 30-34 ladies. In the men's Troy Grimshaw, Mark Gleeson, Pat Dall and Darren Lockhart were all in the top 15 in their age groups to post some early points.
Chris Bierton also placed well and received some points despite running 12.5km in the run leg when the officials did not have someone at a run turnaround. Unfortunately there were quite a few in the same age group that suffered the same fate as Chris.
TRAINING THIS WEEK - FAREWELL AND CHRISTMAS SESSION
The calendar this week is slightly different with Robson's Thursday morning run now on Friday morning. As in past years it will be a chance to get together before Christmas and finish the year with some drinks and nibbles after the session.
The session starts and finishes at the Soutbank Lagoon and we would like everyone to bring a plate or something to drink for after the session. We do this session every year with Robson and he does a great job in finishing off the year with a good session.
As a result there is no Friday morning wind trainer or swim this week and tomorrow morning the only session is the swim with Tim.
Tomorrow night is also Bronny's last session and afterwards there will be a bbq at the pool to celebrate her time with BTS. If you would like to attend please reply to Bronny's facebook invitation so catering can be finalised.
Training will resume on Tuesday January 3rd but it is a slightly reduced program that week so please check the calendar for all details.
MOOLOOLABA CAMP 2012
We are still taking places for the 2 and 3 day Mooloolaba training camp from Thursday 26th to Sunday 29th of Jan. If you would like to attend please contact suz@brisbanetrisquad.com.au to secure your spot.
MERRY CHRISTMAS
On behalf of everyone at BTS we would like to wish everyone a safe, festive and happy Christmas and New Year. We hope that 2012 is a great one for BTS members and their families and we look to seeing everyone in the New Year.
Training resumes again on Tuesday January 3rd after this Friday morning's session with Robson.

BUSSO 2012
Last week we mentioned how the Busso 2012 race was going to be the designated IM event for BTS in 2012. Whilst we have a few athletes competing across the other IM events prior to that, the Busso race was always going to be the squad one.
Well after entries sold out in 69 minutes last Friday we now have 28 athletes from BTS heading across to compete. Among those 28 are 12 first timers, 18 men, 10 ladies and a great mix of ability with a couple of potential Kona qualifiers in there.
With family and friends coming across to support it should be a great trip and something that everyone is already looking forward to. There is much hard work to be done prior to December 9th and in the new year we will arrange a meeting for everyone competing to outline the plan for the next 12 months.
WORLD CHAMP QUALIFYING RACES
This weekend we have some athletes heading to Canberra and Perth in their attempts to qualify for the World Champs in Auckland next year. Heading to Canberra are Troy Grimshaw, Chris Bierton, Kristy Bell, Pat Dall, Darren Lockhart, Yas Grigaluinas, Mark Gleeson and Amanda Johns who will all race the first Olympic Distance qualifer.
Going across to Perth is Merinda Eckart who will race a sprint event there as she attempts to make the sprint team. Good luck to everyone racing this weekend and we look forward to watching theirs and others progress in the coming months.

Our next course starts on January 17th and will again finish with a Raby Bay event on February 26th. If you know of anyone that is keen to get into triathlon but not sure where to start these courses are perfect.

IRONMAN WA 2011
The IM event in Busso has become a great event for IM athletes around Australia. Great location, fast course and a town that gets behind the race makes it an event to do.
This year we had 3 athletes competing with all making it across the line to become an IM finisher for the first time. Callan Lloyd and Josh Marsden both competed in the 25-29 age group with Josh coming 6th in a time of 10.10 and Callan 11th in a time of 10.30.
For a couple of young blokes doing their first IM it was a great effort and they raced with maturity beyond their years. In the men's 40-44 we had big Steve "Ando" Anderson who showed much determination and grit to finish in 16.16.
Ando will be the first to admit that he had a less than ideal preparation with a job in the mines but he demonstrated that it takes a lot to stop this big man. From everyone at BTS congrats to Callan, Josh and Ando for a job well done.
IRONMAN 2012 - BUSSO
The 2012 Busso event will be the BTS IM event for 2012. We have a few athletes competing in New Zealand, Melbourne and Port Macquarie in 2012 but the Busso event will be the big one for BTS.
Entries open this Friday at 10am and we expect that there will be between 20 and 30 members from the squad entering the 2012 event. If you're on line at 10am I would expect that you will get an entry.
THANKS
Our super swim coach, Bronny is leaving us at the end of the year. Bronny has decided to hang up her swim coaching goggles and focus on new pursuits in life. One of the constants from day one in BTS has been Bronny and her great swim coaching sessions for our members.
So it is with great sadness we say goodbye to Bronny and thank her for the outstanding contribution she has made to BTS. Bronny's caring nature and cheerful disposition have made a huge impact on the sessions she coaches so we will all miss her.
On behalf of the whole coaching team and all the past and present members of BTS we would like to thank Bronny and wish her and her family all the best in the next chapter of her life.
RABY BAY QTS
This Sunday is the last Gatorade QTS race for 2011 at Raby Bay. It is also the graduating race for the current beginner course participants.
Many squad members will be using the race as their last hit out of 2011 before building into the 2012 season. As usual the team from Performance Podiatry and Physiotherapy and Brett from Elite Sports Massage will be there to assist.
The next race of the QTS series is Robina on January 15th and club champs so make sure when you enter you list BTS as your club to gain a point. The more members we have competing the better as we try and win back the title.
ARTICLES
Over the last couple of weeks we have had a couple of squad members write about their experiences. Firstly Kellie Liddelow and her struggles in overcoming major back surgery and today Christian Seymour on his journey from a 127kg overweight man on a one way ticket to the grave to a slim 80kg triathlete.
Both are great stories in determination and perseverance and well worth a read. Go to
http://www.brisbanetrisquad.com.au/Articles.php to read them and any other articles we have.
If you have a story that you would like to tell please send it in. Sometimes our greatest inspirations are right next to us with out even knowing it.
Whilst we look to the professionals with great admiration and marvel at their abilities, sometimes it is the humble age grouper that balances work, family and life that we can learn the most from.
