The Noosa 2011 Triathlon was another great weekend of racing and relaxing. The weather on race day was quite warm up and at times windy which did have an impact on overall times.
Shannon Dooland has actually provided an analysis between last year and this year’s times (all results from 2010 and 2011). It shows that this year’s times were down on last year on the bike and run. This was due to the blustery conditions on the bike and the heat of the run.
What is shows is that 2011 was slower than 2010 and the biggest difference was in the run. Take the 10th percentile which is about a 2:17:
- the swim is within 10 seconds comparing the two years
- the bike was 50 seconds quicker in 2010 than in 2011
- the run was 1 minute 33 seconds quicker in 2010 than in 2011
- overall the 10th % was a 2:19:12 in 2011 and was 2:17:27 in 2010.
These differences are even more pronounced as the times get longer. The near identical swim times between the two years suggest the field was just as capable but the conditions made the race slower.
We’ll post everyone’s times later in the week on the website but some of the highlights of the weekend included:
- Chris Bierton winning the 20-24 age group, up from 3rd last year.
- Top 10 placings to Dave Thomas, Hannah Hogan, Paul Thistelton, Yas Grigaluinas, Kristy Bell and Chris Bierton
- Life member presentations to Tim Franklin, Simon Prebble, Alicia Newman, Merinda Eckart, Shelly Marriott, Nic Savage and Belinda Daniels
- Blair Venn winning the $2500 3D home theatre system courtesy of Videopro
- Most improved Noosa time to Ben Hargreaves 2.56 to 2.35 and Amanda Lucas 2.58 to 2.33
- Fastest male and female to Dave Thomas 2.08 and Hannah Hogan 2.21
- Raising $560 for the Geebung Special School for pick your Noosa time. The winner was Aaron Beckinsale
- Numerous pb’s and first timers at Noosa
- The after party
Thanks to the sponsors for getting behind BTS for this year’s Noosa campaign. Videopro for their awesome prize again, the team from Performance Podiatry and Physio for their race assistance, Brett from Elite Sports Massage for his massage work and Suzuki for the BTS Grand Vitara for getting us there.
Congratulations to everyone who completed the race especially the first timers. Next year’s race is November 4th with individual entries opening on Tuesday November 8th at 9.00 and teams open on Tuesday November 15th. It is a first in first served basis so if you’re keen to be there next year you better be prepared to be on line.
TRAINING
There are still many events to work towards as Noosa is really the start of the season. It is always a big build up to Noosa and often the first big race of the year for many people. Sometimes it is important to have a break straight after for 1-2 weeks. Alternatively a break just before Christmas is also a good idea. Either way it is a good idea to kick back for 1-2 weeks and get ready for the new year.
The training between now and Christmas will be slightly different as it is more about maintaining fitness. The intensity won’t be quite as high although if you’re working towards Busso IM and different World Champ selection events selection events then the training will still be quite challenging to get you peaking at the right time.
We’ve still got the Gatorade races starting with Robina in a couple of weeks and Raby Bay on December 11th. Then the first event of the new year is the club champs at Robina on January 11th.
GOOD LUCK
This weekend new BTS life member Tim Franklin is competing at his first World Champs, the Long Distance Worlds in the USA. With a great prep behind Tim is ready to go so on behalf of everyone at BTS we wish him good luck.
We also have a reasonable size crew heading to Port Macquarie for the half IM. Good luck to everyone racing.
NEW BEGINNER COURSE
We would like to welcome our latest group of beginner course participants who started this week . They will finish with the Raby Bay race on December 11th. Over the next 6 weeks they will cover everything to get them ready to race.
