TRAINING
The training sessions over the last couple of weeks have certainly gone up a notch across the board as we prepare for some of the races ahead. It has been great to see everyone working hard and really challenging themselves to make the most of every training session. This type of effort rarely goes unrewarded on race day so I’m sure we’ll see a few pb’s .
Talking about pb’s it is also the time to test ourselves with some time trials starting this Friday morning and a 20km bike tt at the Nundah Crit Track. To ensure we can run a safe and effective session we’ll spit Friday’s session into 2 groups.
Starting at 5.10am (warm up) with a 5.25am kick off is everyone with last names starting with A – M and then a 5.45am warm up for a 6.00am start is names M – Z. Please try and be ready to go at either 5.25am of 6.00am sharp so we can get the session finished on time. If you are in the second group but need to leave early for work then come along to the first session otherwise try and stick to the groups as arranged.
Next Tuesday morning we’ll also be doing a 3km time trial from Herston so if you’re racing Raby Bay we have a busy few days ahead. A couple of weeks out from a major race like Noosa, a series of few hard efforts like this is fine as long as you pay attention to your recovery by eating well, getting some quality sleep and hydrating after the sessions.
On Saturday morning is a swim/wind trainer from the Valley Pool where intensity won’t be high focusing on drills/technique in both the pool and wind trainer.
RABY BAY – NEW MASSAGE PROVIDER, MUSIC AND AFTER RACE DRINKS
The first Gatorade race of the season is this week at Raby Bay and a great chance to test your training over the short 400/15/4 distance before Noosa. The BTS and GCTS tents will be there along with our amp and music courtesy of Videopro.
Joining us again this season at all the Brisbane and Sunshine Coast Events will be the team from Performance Podiatry and Physio. The Sweeting brothers and podiatrists Kent and Ben will be there to assist with any strapping or blister prevention help you need while Ben Ward (physio) will be on hand for any stretching/injury support you need. At the Gold Coast events will be the team from Gold Coast Physio at Runaway Bay.
This season we also have a new massage provider working with us, Brett from Elite Sports Massage who is based from the Valley Pool. Brett will be on hand this weekend to provide massage support for BTS/GCTS members and will be joining us for the Brisbane and Sunshine Coast Events.
Brett is an experienced triathlete himself and will also be competing at many of these events so has a great idea of what athletes go through and how he can help. BTS members will also receive a 20% discount on massage from Brett’s studio at the Valley Pool. Brett can be contacted on http://www.facebook.com/EliteSportsMassage
After the race on Sunday there is a social drinks from 4pm at the Plough Inn, Southbank. With the Wallabies and All Blacks on the big screen at 5.30pm it should be a great way to finish the day.
CLUB CHAMPS
The Gatorade Robina race on the 15th of January next year is the Club Champs round for 2011/12. After winning in the first year in 2009 we were relegated to second behind Red Dog last year. With more and more clubs getting behind the concept the race at Robina promises to be a cracker.
It would be great to go back next year and take the title again so we need as many people as possible to enter the event. When entering the race you need to put BTS as your nominated club and everyone that competes under BTS receives a point.
These type of events are a lot of fun and really promote the team side of triathlon and encourages people to join a squad or club. So get behind us as we try and show why BTS is the number one squad in Queensland.
PICK YOUR NOOSA TIME FUNDRAISER FOR GEEBUNG SPECIAL SCHOOL
Sarah Hulme and Yas Grigaluinas are running a competition, pick your Noosa time. Entry is $10 and all proceeds go to the Geebung Special School. First prize is $75, second is $50 and third is $25 whilst there is also another competition for those not racing where you can nominate the fastest male and female BTS members at Noosa with first prize of $50.
You’ll be able to nominate right up until race day and you are free to nominate someone else’s time if you’re not racing. You can also make changes to your time once it is nominated but it will cost an extra $2.
The money we have raised in the past for the Geebung Special School is extremely well received by all the staff, parents and students so the more entries we have the better.
AQUA SHOP SPECIAL
Our friends from the Aqua Shop have a great special on wetsuits at the moment. They have between $50 and $120 off different model wetsuits so if you’re in the market for one pop in and see Brett at the Aqua Shop on 448 Old Cleveland Road, Camp Hill ph: 3324 9163 or http://www.aquashop.com.auu/
STROKE AND STRIDE SERIES
If you’re not racing Raby Bay and after something different there is a great aquathon series run on the Sunshine Coast, Stroke and Stride http://www.strokeandstride.com.au/ . It is from Lake Kawana and the first race of the series is this Saturday morning from 9am.
The team behind it do a great job and if anyone from BTS is interested in competing we have 2 free entries to give away. This year they’re also offering a 5 race series on the Gold Coast and these aquathons a great hit out to test your fitness outside of the major races.
