TRAINING
We are really into a hard intense phase of training at the moment. Coming out of Winter and into Spring is the time to transfer all the work done on the hills into some high quality intervals across the swim, bike and run.
With quite a number of key events coming up for many in the squad the high intensity training really sharpens you up and takes your fitness to the top level needed to race well. I am a big believer in this type of training for age groupers due to the limited time they have to train.
Regardless of the distance you race there should be some high intensity training in your program. What varies between athletes is the amount you do every 7-10 days and the amount of intervals you do in a session. Athlete experience comes into it as does age but it has great benefits for all levels of athlete.
It is very important to make sure your recovery is a priority after every session. Having your recovery drink of Puresport to consume after the session, sleeping well and eating a well balanced diet will ensure you get the benefits of this training. And on those easy days, you need to go easy so you can go hard on your hard.
WEEKEND TRAINING
Last weekend was the first transition session for this season and it was great day out at Redcliffe. We'll continue to do these brick type sessions on a regular basis now so this Saturday morning is a swim/run from the Valley Pool.
We will also be doing a swim, bike, run session on the Gold Coast with the GCTS squad if anyone from Brisbane wants to travel down. It will be a 5.30am swim from the pool at Southport, followed by a tempo ride along the Spit and then a 5km run along Main Beach.
Either of these sessions will be a great one to do but if you're looking to mix up your training a bit why not head down to the Coast for something different. With our GCTS sessions all BTS members are welcome to attend at any time as part of their BTS training fees.
THURSDAY NIGHT SWIMMING
From tonight we're now offering 2 sessions again on a Thursday night from 5.15pm to 6.15pm and then 6.15pm t0 7.15pm. Both sessions will be the same in format so all abilities are welcome at either.
