NOOSA TRI CAMP 2011

Our annual Noosa Tri training camp is on again from Friday 16th Sep to Sunday 18th of Sep. As per previous years we'll again be staying at the beautiful Outrigger Resort on Gympie Terrace, Noosaville.

Every year the camp is a great way to prepare for not only the Noosa Triathlon but set up a platform for the season ahead. With many of our members also working towards half IM events in Port Macquarie, Canberra, Taupo and the Busso IM the camp gives a fantastic fitness boost for the big races.

Over the weekend we'll cover the whole Noosa course and cater the training for all the different abilities. The camp kicks off the Friday afternoon around 4pm before finishing Sunday afternoon. Cost for the camp is $290 for BTS members and $320 for non members.

This includes 2 nights accommodation, dinner Saturday night, lunches on Saturday and Sunday , drinks and refreshments for training and all training sessions.

If you would like to attend please contact suz@brisbanetrisquad.com.au and pay a $100 deposit into the BTS bank account to secure your spot. Full payments are required by Monday September 12th.

TRAINING

Today represents 12 weeks to Noosa and also a change in the training emphasis. Along the way there is Tour de Tri next weekend, The Puresport Kingsliffe Triathlon in 5 weeks, Noosa Camp in 6 weeks and Raby Bay in 10 weeks.

Post Noosa is the Port Macquarie half IM on Nov 6th and in December Busso IM, Canberra Half, Taupo Half and the first qualifying race in Canberra for the World Champs next year.

As always the key to racing well is achieving consistency in your training, recovering well and having some fun along the way. Over the last few months we have gone from some easy aerobic miles to recover from last season and then into some power work on the hills.

Now for August and September the emphasis will be on some strength endurance work to lift your threshold and the ability to hold a faster pace for longer. As we get closer to the races the intensity will lift a further notch to replicate the conditions of a race.

CHANGES TO TRAINING TIMETABLE

From this week there will be a couple of changes to the training schedule to further offer more sessions and improve the training already on available.

The first of those is on a Monday night with the core/box. Now that we have a Wednesday night Pilates session that focuses a lot more on the crucial core stability that you need for triathlon the Monday night session changes.

To start with on a Monday night from 5.30pm to 6.15pm will be a run that focuses on drills and plyometrics. Running for triathlon is a sport on it's own due to the fatigued nature your body is in before you run a step. This is very different to pure running where you start your races fresh.

By performing some weekly drills and plyomterics it will go along way to improving your running economy and bringing those run splits down. The more you can hold your form under physical fatigue the faster you will run. The run starts and finishes from the Valley pool.

After the run session from 6.15pm will be a 45 min general strength/box session that still has a core focus as part of it but more of an overall general strength component to it. By continually giving the body different training stimulus you will continue to improve and this session does that. Then from 7-7.15pm will be a partner stretch to finish.

From next Monday the 15th of August the beginner swim session will be split into 2 sessions. The first session will be 5.30pm - 6.15pm and is more towards the absolute beginner new to squad training and training in general. Then from 6.15-7.15pm is for those who have been training with the squad for a while and not yet at a level for the main squad sessions.

BABIES, BABIES AND MORE BABIES!

Congratulations to former BTS member Nigel Mather and his wife Leah on the birth of their first child last week in New Zealand. Along with Nigel, Aaron Beckinsale and his wife Kym welcomed their first son into the world during the week.

And finally it seems only a matter of hours before Pat and Katie Dall welcome their first child also. The in November Dave Doyle and Faye Jenner are preparing their home in preparation for their first child.

Must be something in the water. Looks like we'll have to organise a child care for training and races!
