TOUR DE TRI 24HR TRIATHLON 2011

This year's Tour de Tri went well and we have already started planning for the 2012 event. We were blessed with great weather, an accident free race and some great racing.

The results and photos (thanks to James Johnson) from the weekend are on the website at http://www.tourdetri.com.au/ . We were also able to donate $3500 to LETR who assist Special Olympic Athletes and their families with training and competing.

Thanks to all the volunteers who gave up their time to make the event happen. We could not have held the event without their help.

YEPOON 70.3

We had a small crew head up to Yepoon to race the 70.3 event. Leading the way was Troy Grimshaw who did a 6min pb from last year to cross the line in 4.39 and also take out the State Championship for the second year in a row.

Just behind Troy was Josh Marsden and Callan Lloyd who went 4.47 and 4.48 respectively. Both Josh and Troy are now getting ready for the debut IM at Busselton in December. Krista Page also competed and finished but had a tough day with a couple of flats on the bike.

AVANTI PLUS THE VALLEY MONTHLY PRIZES

Thanks to Matt and the team from Avanti Plus the Valley for this month's prizes. The first prize of the free service goes to Carol Russell for her great efforts in completing the individual 24hr race at the Tour de Tri.

Carol completed 19 laps of the 300m swim, 9km ride and 2km run in the 24hrs in a determined show of endurance and toughness. Well done Carol.

The free bike fit valued at $200 goes to Troy Grimshaw for his pb effort at Yepoon 70.3 IM. Troy is working towards World Champs selection in 2012 and Yepoon shows is he on track for some great races.

NOOSA TRAINING CAMP

Spots are starting to fill up for our annual Noosa camp at the Outrigger Resort. Noosaville from September 16-18. If you would like to go please e-mail suz@brisbanetrisquad.com.au and secure your spot with a $100 deposit.

ONE PIECE TRI SUITS

We will have some samples of our new one piece tri suits from Scody to try on at training next week. We will be taking orders once they arrive and should have the new suits ready to go by Raby Bay on October 16th.

TRAINING

It's great to see so many people back at training and getting ready for the up coming season. Our first race is only 3 weeks away at Kingscliffe and we're only 9 weeks out from Noosa so these next few weeks are vital to helping you get ready.

We will continue to focus on strength work at most of the run and bike sessions for the next 3-4 weeks before starting some higher intensity work leading into Noosa. So this Saturday morning is our first Nebo/Glorius ride for some time and is a great session for all abilities.

The stronger riders will do the complete loop while the beginner level will ride to the top of Nebo and then come back down. The BTS Suzuki will be a support car for the loop starting from 6am at the Gap Coffee Club.

Over the next few weeks we'll also do some time trials where bonus tickets into the Noosa Videopro draw will be offered. We have already had a run time trial and will next do the 20km bike time trial and 800m in the pool.

GOOD BYE AND GOOD LUCK

One of our most popular and talented athletes, Nic Savage is off to London and America for 12 months with work. After recently graduating with a law degree Nic's new employer's are sending her abroad for 12 months.

It will be a great experience for Nic and we look forward to seeing her back this time next year. At least she will have company over in London with Martin Collinson, Chris Bierton and Catherine Sharp all in London at the moment.

FUNDRAISING RIDE FOR SMIDDY

The annual fundrising ride for Smiddy in honour of a young triathlete who died from skin cancer is on again in September this year. The ride from Brisbane to Townsville takes 2 weeks to complete and along this year as part of the team riding to Townsville is Sue Stevenson.

Sue also happens to be my Aunty and officially the oldest woman to attempt the Smiddy Challenge at 61 years of age. After 25 years of doing triathlon including the Hawaii IM this will be one of her greatest challenges.

If you would like to assist Sue with her fundraising for this great cause you can do so by going to her fundraising page at http://www.smiddyfundraising.com.au/sue_stevenson_8
