BTS END OF SEASON AWARDS AND PARTY

Last Saturday we celebrated the end of the 2010/11 season with a boat cruise along the Brisbane River followed by a day at the Eagle Farm races. It was a great day to finish another massive season.

We'll have some photos up soon but there are already quite a few floating around on various facebook pages. You may have already seen the end of season video we put together but if not it is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWeujpyJu-Q and also on the home page of the website.

The award winners for the season were:

Endurance Award: Brad Jones

Most Improved athlete: Blair Venn

Most Outstanding female athlete: Alissa Williams

Most Outstanding male athlete: Chris Bierton

Coaches Award: Paul Scroggie

Congratulations to everyone on the season and we look forward to another big year ahead for 2011/12.

MONDAY NIGHT SOCIAL DINNERS

Starting from next Monday the 4th of July and on the first Monday of every month we are starting a Monday night social dinner from the Waterloo Hotel, Ann Street the Valley.

Start time will be 7.30pm after training finishes at the pool and we’ll also be giving away a $50 voucher from Aqua Shop each month. No need to book but just turn up and use the opportunity to have a nice dinner with other squad members.

NEW 12 WEEK PERSONAL PROGRAMS

Athletes that have been on a personal program have done very well when it came to performing in their key event. A personal program is catered specifically for the athlete based on their training history, age, work/family situation and event they are training for.

In this format athletes receive a new program each fortnight and work with the coach to get the training balance right for them. These programs are extra to the training fees and obviously also incur an extra fee each month.

However for those wanting a personal program but a more affordable version we are now offering a 12 week personalised program. For this you receive a detailed 12 week program specific to your event and based on your current fitness/ability. The athlete completes a profile and then we set out the program for 12 weeks.

The cost of the programs range from $120-$200 depending on what coach you use to write the program. Go to the training fees page on the website for more information http://www.brisbanetrisquad.com.au/Fees.php

500 ENDEAVOUR SUMMER CHALLENGE

From Nov 18-20 is the annual 500 Endeavour Summer Challenge road relay. This is an annual event that raises much needed funds for the Endeavour Foundation who assist the intellectually handicapped in the community. http://summerchallenge.endeavour.com.au/

Last year a few BTS athletes ran together in a team from BDO Kendalls who are again entering a
team and looking for runners. This year we are also entering a BTS team so if you would like to run in either team please contact me mark@brisbanetrisquad.com.au

Entry is $150 per person which includes team singlet, accommodation, race entry fee, food and other team costs such as vehicles. We do need however to raise as much money as possible to get the team on the road and contribute to the fundraising of the event

To start this fundraising off there will be a trivia night on Saturday July 16th at the Kurilpa Hall, Montague Rd West End from 6pm. Cost is $10 per person and on the night a raffle for a food and drink hamper will be held. Beer, wine and soft drinks will be available for purchase and all proceeds will go towards the fundraising.

If you would like to come along please send your rsvp to Mark Taylor on mark.taylor@bdo.com.au .

FEEDBACK SURVEY

Thanks to everyone who completed our feedback survey. We received some great suggestions and will look at implementing some of those in the future. The winner of the $100 voucher from Aqua Shop for completing the survey was Helen Barrett.

If you would like to see some of the suggestions put forward and our response please e-mail me at mark@brisbanetrisquad.com.au and I will send e-mail it to you.

TRAINING

I have spoken to a few athletes lately about their different events and what they are training for. Many are doing Noosa, however some missed out and with Gold Coast Half IM no longer on some are wondering what to aim for.

The great thing about triathlon at the moment is there are more and more races on the calendar to choose from. Events like and Noosa and Mooloolaba will always be the flagship type races and will continue to grow.

However races such as our own Tour de Tri on August 13 and 14, The Fusion Games on July 17th, the Kingscliffe Triathlon on September 11th, the Straddie Salute on October 9th give you the chance to try different races and also some different locations.

Triathletes love to race and test themselves, it is part of their type A personality. The chance to push that little bit harder, go a little further and take on a new challenge is what pushes them out of bed in the morning. The rush from achieving something great is a feeling they all want to do again and again.

Maybe it also things like the OXFAM 100 that Marina Mangano, Blair Venn and Luke Witham did a couple of weeks ago, a crit race on the bike or a trail run at the Glass House Mountains. What ever it is, winter is the perfect time to make the most of these different type of events and get back into a training routine after a break.

At a time when you’re maybe questioning what’s next why not look at something you have not done before. All of the above mentioned events are affordable, fun and offer a great relaxed atmosphere for competitors.

For the Noosa athletes next week represents 17 weeks to go and the start of the strength work at some sessions. If you are just returning to training then we can cater the session accordingly to make sure you’re doing the right work for your current level of fitness.

GOLD COAST MARATHON FESTIVAL

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend on the Gold Coast. The BTS tent will be there all weekend for those in the 10km on Saturday morning and the half marathon and marathon on Sunday morning.
