BTS Blog 3/3/11

RACE RESULTS

The latest QTS race at Raby Bay on Sunday showed everyone is coming into some good form leading into Mooloolaba. We had numerous top 10 placings, pb's and podiums over the short fast 400/15/4 distance.

Leading the charge was Nic Savage who was first in the 25-29 and 5th female overall. Tom Manning was first in the 20-24 men's with Tom Hogbin 3rd while Craig Carmichael in only his third race scored a top 10 in the same category.

One of the great highlights though was Darrell Giles who did an 8 min pb on the same course since Oct. Darrell has worked very hard on his swim and bike to match his already solid run and it is stories like Darrell that show anything is possible when you do the work.

It's actually getting to the point due to the growth of the squad to mention everyone is these blogs like we used to. However performances like Darrell are always worth a mention in the hope that others may be inspired to do the same.

We also had a few of the IM guys doing a half IM at Noosa as part of their IM prep. Kit Rix who is 5 weeks from his first IM at South Africa did a 1hr pb for a 4.36 while Paul Scroggie had a great race in his first half IM for a 4.51.

IM NEW ZEALAND

On Saturday we have 5 BTS athletes competing in the IM event in New Zealand. Lining up for their first IM events are Brad Hector, Tom Chandler, Alicia Newman and Sarah Hulme while Brad Jones is backing up for another crack at Taupo after debuting there last year.

You can follow their progress on www.ironman.co . We'll also try and post updates on the BTS facebook page during the race.

KINGSCLIFFE TRIATHLON

The team from QSM Sports are holding the Kingscliffe Triathlon this weekend over the 1/30/8 and tempta distance. QSM put on a great event and Kingscliffe is a fantastic place for a race so if you're looking for another race as a lead up to Mooloolaba I highly recommend this event.

Go to www.qsmsports.com.au to enter. The GCTS tent will be there for all athletes from BTS and GCTS.

VIDEOPRO BONUS TICKETS

With just over 3 weeks to Mooloolaba we'll be giving away a few more bonus tickets for BTS members in the Videopro www.videopro.com.au draw for the $2500 3D 50" plasma TV.

Starting next week at different sessions we'll be doing some race type work which will help prepare for the race. The winners of these formats (handicap)will receive the bonus tickets on offer.

TRAINING

The next couple of weeks will continue along the same lines as the last couple. The shorter, faster and hard training that is at race pace or faster. They are hard but the returns are great so make an effort to give the sessions a red hot go.

As always get your recovery right through fluid and energy replacement, massage, stretching, adequate sleep and ensuring your easy sessions are just that easy.

There will also be another couple of time trials to measure progress plus a after the success of the last transition session at Southport we'll be doing another one there on Sat Mar 12th with GCTS.
